Instagram Better Controls is an independent Chrome extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by Meta Platforms, Inc. or Instagram.

What this extension does

Instagram Better Controls adds a seek bar to videos on instagram.com (Reels, posts, and Stories) and can keep the currently playing video file on your computer when you click Keep.

What information we handle

The extension runs locally in your browser. It may read:

• Website content on instagram.com that is needed to draw the seek bar (for example, the video element and its playback position).
• Media file URLs already present on the page (Instagram CDN hosts cdninstagram.com and fbcdn.net) when you choose to keep a video, so the file can be saved to this device.

Instagram Better Controls does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Names, emails, phone numbers, or other personal identifiers
• Passwords, cookies, CSRF tokens, or other authentication information
• Payment, health, or location data
• A history of sites you visit outside instagram.com

How the information is used

Video position data is used only to update the on-page seek bar. Media URLs are used only to start a download that you initiate. Files are saved to the download folder your browser uses.

The use of information received from Chrome APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Sharing

Instagram Better Controls has no backend of its own. It does not send your videos, URLs, or account data to our servers, advertisers, or data brokers. When you keep a file, Chrome fetches it from Instagram’s CDN to your computer. That transfer is between your browser and Instagram’s infrastructure, not to us.

Permissions

• Access to instagram.com: inject the seek bar and keep button on that site.
• CDN host access for cdninstagram.com and fbcdn.net: used only when you click Keep, so the file can be written on this device.
• Downloads: save the chosen video file to this computer’s download folder.

Retention

We do not retain user data on our servers. Kept video files remain in the download location your browser uses.
